Not every repair is urgent, and not every upgrade pays you back. Here's how to sort the work that matters from the work that just spends money.
How to Categorize the Work
Eight categories. Knowing which one something falls into changes whether it's urgent, valuable, or optional.
Before You Pick a Contractor
The lowest estimate is not always the least expensive project.
Two quotes that look close on price can cover completely different scopes of work. Before comparing totals, compare what's actually included, line by line: work included and excluded, materials and allowances, permit costs, labor breakdown, payment schedule and deposit, warranty terms, and disposal or cleanup. A quote that's 20% lower but excludes permits and uses builder-grade allowances isn't actually the better deal, it's a different project wearing a lower number.
